New process for IPNF events

December 18, 2013
The Idaho Panhandle National Forests are implementing a new open season application process for special use recreation events. A special use authorization is required before conducting any type of commercial recreation use of National Forest System lands.

This open season will streamline recreation special use permitting and allow time for review and processing prior to an event. The open period for applications is determined by the proposed event date. Non-commercial group use, filming and outfitter/guide permits are not subject to open season periods.

Effective immediately, the following application periods apply:

   * January 1 through January 31 for summer season events (those occurring between June 1 - November 30)

   * August 1 through August 31 for winter season events (those occurring between December 1 - May 31)

The Idaho Panhandle National Forests provide public value and unique opportunities for many outdoor recreation events. Adopting an open season application process allows the forest to meet customer needs in a more efficient manner while responding to an increasing number of requests for special use permit authorizations within budget constraints.

For additional information about the application process for recreation events, please contact the special use permit administrator at the district office nearest you. More information can also be found at http://www.fs.usda.gov/ipnf.
