Badgers fall to Maniacs

September 30, 2013
By Coach Don Alt

On Friday, the Bonners Ferry Badger varsity football team traveled to Orofino to battle the Orofino Maniacs.

On a very muddy and sloppy field Orofino took a 6 to 0 lead on a 16 yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter. The Badgers marched into Maniac territory but turned the ball over on downs. Quarterback Christian Trocke slipped on a fourth and inches on a quarterback sneak.

Orofino could not take advantage of the turnover on downs but pinned the Badgers inside the 20 yard line. After an intentional grounding call on the Badgers, Trocke threw an interception that was run back to the five yard line. On third and goal from the eight, Orofino ran the ball in and a two point conversion made it 14 to 0.

In the second half, Bryan Yeoumans made a great run on a counter play for 40 yards and put the Badgers in position to score. The Badger drive stopped inside the 30 yard when the Badgers turned the ball over on downs. Both teams would go back and forth between the 30 yard lines but no one was able to sustain a scoring drive.

The fourth quarter was more of the same. Neither team was able to get inside the 30 yard line of the opposition.

Final score Orofino 14 Badgers 0.

The Badgers next face Reardan, Washington, at 7 p.m. Friday in another road game.
