Oiva
Wakkinen, known as Pete, died peacefully in his
sleep on May 27, 2016 at the Boundary County
Community Restorium.
He was born on July 21, 1927 in Brantwood,
Wisconsin, the youngest of 18. After a short
stint in the U.S. Army, Pete traveled the
country and eventually settled in the west. He
was a heavy duty mechanic and worked building
many of the dams throughout the west, living in
Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and
Wyoming. He loved fishing and hunting and spent
most of his time outdoors.
He has three children, six grandchildren and
four great grandchildren. He loved living at the
Restorium. Despite losing his ability to talk
due to a stroke many years ago, he was always
ready with a big smile and a hearty “Hey!” to
all he met, endearing him to many. A short
celebration of his life will be held at the
Restorium at a future date. |
