John
A. Eckberg, 85, passed away at Boundary
Community Hospital on February 6 in the company
of his family. A private memorial will be held
at a
later date.
Surviving are his wife, Sally Bates Eckberg, a
daughter Susan, Bonners Ferry; three sons,
Stephen, Merritt Island Florida, Thomas, Coeur
d’Alene, Idaho, and Andrew, Bonners Ferry; a
sister, Mary Elizabeth (Betty),
Tucson, Arizona; several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. His brother Douglas, sister
Carol and granddaughter Kirsten preceded him in
death.
Mr. Eckberg was born in Rochester, New York on
January 3, 1931, son of Arvid Ralph and Esther
Eckberg. He graduated from St. Lawrence
University in Canton, New York, and met Sally
there. Upon graduation in 1954, he served inthe
U.S. Army, 10th
Mountain Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.
John worked for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New
York for over 20 years, and jumped at the
opportunity to relocate for work at the new
facility in Windsor, Colorado in 1975. He worked
there until retiring in 1984, and bought a horse
boarding
facility; Jolly Ridge Farm in Laporte, Colorado.
Mr. Eckberg loved the outdoors, and had lived in
Bonners Ferry with his family since 2014. |
