Ethel Geraldine Peaster
December 4, 1924 ~ August 14, 2015
August 18, 2015
Our dear mother and grandmother, Ethel Geraldine Dirks Peaster was born in Tampa, Kansas to Ernest and Alda Unruh Dirks on December 4, 1924. She peacefully and unexpectedly passed away at the Sunset Home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, on August 14, 2015, reaching the age of 90 years. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Mennonite Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Mennonite Cemetery.

Mom’s younger years were spent in Tampa and Copeland, Kansas. At age 12 Mom’s family moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Mom accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1941, being baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by her father, Minister Ernest Dirks. She remained faithful to the end.

On April 16, 1944 she married our Dad, Glen Peaster. They were the first couple to be married in the “little brown church” in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. They enjoyed 68 years of joys and sorrows together. The loss of their son, Lavern, in a tragic accident in 1964 was a very difficult time for Dad and Mom. Dad’s passing in August of 2012 left Mom very lonely. Seven months later she moved into Sunset Home. Mom and we as a family appreciated the love and care she received.

One of Mom’s favorite songs was “More Like Jesus.” In her quiet, caring, unselfish ways she left us the example of her desire to be like Jesus. Mom was a lover of hospitality and often reached out to those in need. Through the years our parents provided a home for many young people. At the church sewing Mom found her place mending for the hospital and nursing home. She continued her sewing projects and tokens of love to the very end.
