Harvey Lester Pedey

Lifetime Boundary County resident Harvey Lester Pedey, 75, passed away after a brief illness on February 11, 2015, at Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, surrounded by family. Memorial Service and Reception will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church.

Harvey was born August 10, 1939, at home in Copeland, Idaho, to Leon and Hazel Georgia Pearl Pedey. He attended school at Copeland Rural School, Mt. Hall Grade School, and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1957.

He married Karen Zenier on July 26, 1958, in Bonners Ferry, and together they raised three children.

Harvey worked at various positions during the early years of family life, including Gene’s OK Tire Shop and General Feed and Grain. In 1964, he purchased Monk’s Texaco Service, continuing the business as Harv’s Texaco Service (current site of Mugsy’s and Hair Connection Salon) until 1968. Harvey then entered the construction business as a private contractor, including working with Don Crum, Michael Haynes, Bob Robertson, and Merle Hill. In 1972, Harvey and partner Russell Docherty purchased Plum Chevrolet, continuing the business as D & P Motors, Inc. until 1991. Following the sale of the dealership, he resumed his construction career, retiring in 2001.

Harvey’s community activities included Badger Boosters, Band Boosters, Jaycees and Kiwanis (including coaching basketball), and continued membership in Lions Club. He served on Bonners Ferry City Council from 1982 to 1994. Through the years he enjoyed gun club, hunting, snowmobiling, fast-pitch softball, league golf, league bowling, boat club, and spending many hours on bleachers watching football, basketball, track, volleyball, band concerts, and other activities for his children and grand-children. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Hazel Pedey, brothers Willard, Richard, Kenneth, Franklin, and sister Eilene Pedey Fairchild.

He is survived by Karen, his wife of 56 years; son Bruce R. Pedey (Janet) and sons Brian (Krista), Spokane, Washington, and Billy (Lindsey), Sandy, Utah; daughter Colleen R. Kelley, Portland, Oregon, her daughter, Rielle, Seattle, Washington; and daughter Carla R. Pedey-Braswell (John) and son and daughter Matthew and Elizabeth, Tacoma, Washington; his brother Victor Pedey (Dona) and sister Phyllis Taylor (Robert), Spokane, Washington, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harvey enjoyed his community, family, many friends and acquaintances. He will be missed. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice or to the Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church.
