resident of Bonners Ferry, passed away
peacefully on December 27, 2014 with family at
his side. A Memorial Service will be held at a
later date, with a committal at Grandview
Cemetery.
Ray was born in Copeland, Idaho on January 7,
1936 to Henry Raymond and Anna Elizabeth (Lipp)
Spalding. Ray attended grade school in Bonners
Ferry and graduated from Bonners Ferry High
School in 1954. He was an excellent boxer and
lettered in boxing in High School.
Ray married Judy Flinn on February 16, 1957, and
they had two beautiful daughters together, Julie
and Laurie. Ray and Judy later divorced.
As a young man Ray worked at Spalding Lumber
Company, the family mill, until it burned down.
For many years after Ray, his dad H.R. Spalding,
and his brothers logged throughout Boundary
County. He served in the Idaho National Guard
for three years. Ray also drove truck on the
Montana to North Dakota run, and he worked in
Alaska.
Ray liked to fish the local streams in his
younger years. He enjoyed cooking for others,
and that is how he got the nickname "Doris" from
his good friend Doug DeBoer. Ray loved his daily
walks and playing cribbage. However, what he
loved best and was most proud of were his two
daughters. He will be missed by his family and
friends.
Ray is survived by daughters Julie (Andy) Rad of
Boise, Laurie (Mark) Andrews of Lewiston, 5
grandchildren; Sarah, Nathan, Tenille, Avery and
Braden, 3 great-grandchildren; Gabe, Henry and
Grant as well as his siblings, Bob
