Dorothy Alice Lamson went to her heavenly home
on July 19, in the ECF wing of Boundary
Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be
held on Saturday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Bonners Ferry Funeral Home with interment in the
Copeland Cemetery, Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Dorothy was born in La Porte, Colorado on March
20, 1924 to Ernest and Gladys(Clark)
Strohmeyer. She had two sisters and five
brothers: Franklin, Paul, Carl, Edna, Lois,
Phillip, and Ray. Her father worked for the
railroad in Colorado and Wyoming, so the family
moved around following his job. She graduated
from high school at age 16 in Garo, Colorado.
Dorothy married Hugh Lamson on December 29,
1946. They met while both were working at the
Gates Rubber Company in Denver, Colorado. They
had four children; Linda Lee, Lois Lynn, Laurie
Lenee and Larry Hugh.
Linda was born in Denver in 1948. They worked on
a ranch in the Rifle, Colorado area until they
moved to North Idaho in 1951 just before Lois
was born. They traded their home North of the
Mt. Hall School to Hugh’s parents for their farm
in the Copeland area. They farmed the family
ranch with Hugh working other jobs. Laurie and
Larry were also born in Bonners Ferry.
Dorothy always had a big garden, and raised
chickens for eggs and meat. She churned her own
butter, made her own homemade cheese, and don't
forget the bread, cinnamon rolls and homemade
noodles. She was the local neighborhood barber,
cutting all of her grandsons', son-in-laws' and
several neighbor boys' hair. Dorothy was a local
babysitter for many of the area children for
several years.
For a surprise, Dorothy made a cassette tape of
her harmonica playing on her young
granddaughter's Fisher-Price tape player for a
family trip. But a much bigger surprise came for
the family when in her 75th year she contacted a
local recording studio and recorded “Grandma
Makin' Music” on CD and cassette. Dorothy was a
self-taught harmonica player who played for her
church, family, friends, and talent shows over
the years.
Dorothy moved from her home in Copeland to the
Oak Street Apartments in 1996, where she lived
until moving into the Community Restorium In
2011. She resided in the Restorium until July
15, 2014 when she became ill and was admitted to
the ECF wing of the hospital.
Dorothy leaves behind Linda (Bob) Anderson, Gig
Harbor, Washington, Lois (Bob) Weakly, of
Bonners Ferry, Laurie (Brad) Lowther, Bonners
Ferry, and Larry Lamson, Portland. Oregon. She
is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great
grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4
brothers, 1 sister, and her husband of 42 years,
Hugh.
She was a special part of all of our lives, and
will be missed by us all. |
