Glenda Doreen McCalmant passed away on November
15, 2013, at Boundary Community Hospital after a
short battle with cancer. Memorial services are
to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, at
Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry, with a
private family inurnment service at Grand View
Cemetery.
Glenda was the sixth of eight children born to
Leslie Earl Frans and Elva Sabina Hodgson Frans
on September 25, 1940, in Sandpoint. As a young
child, she lived on Highland Flats in Naples and
attended first and second grade there.
After a house fire the family moved to Bonners
Ferry where she attended the Northside School,
Valley View School, and graduated from Bonners
Ferry High School in 1959.
Glenda met her husband Tad Ira McCalmant in her
later teens and married him on December 6, 1958.
They celebrated almost 55 years of marriage
together.
During the first few years of their marriage,
they lived in town and then bought a home in
District 2. Through years of hard work, Tad and
Glenda turned an old homestead into a real home;
a source of pride and joy in which each new
project led to the next. It was here at this
house that Glenda and Tad raised their four
children.
Even though Glenda enjoyed being a homemaker,
she also worked outside the home, serving 29
years as a librarian at the Boundary County
Library. Her work at the library always provided
entertaining stories of people she would meet
there.
She also developed many lasting friendships with
her co-workers. Even after she retired you could
catch her volunteering, just because she enjoyed
being there.
One of Glenda`s greatest passions was singing.
She sang in high school choir and continued
singing in her church choir at Trinity Lutheran
Church, where she was a member for over 50
years. Another group she sang in was Wild
Mountain Thyme, which gave her opportunities for
oversea travels and being under the directorship
of renowned musicians such as Bobby McFerren.
She was also a member of the Bonners Ferry
Community Choir, never missing a Christmas
performance in 40 years.
Additional pursuits included reading, enjoying
her pets, and watching Star Trek with family.
Family and friends are invited to sign Glenda’s
book at
www.bonnersferryfuneralhome.com.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of
Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. |
