Disappointed (again) in Mariners' baseball?
Here's what you do
(Hint: it involves a pair of  dominating local teams . . . )
April 22, 2016
Disappointed yet again in the Mariners? Starting another season with high hopes for the Northwest's MLB franchise, only to find them today at 7-8, sub .500 again, and lost in the middle of the pack in the American League West? (which is actually a little better than usual).

If you just want to enjoy some fun, action-packed, winning baseball, look no further than your hometown team, the Bonners Ferry Badgers.

The Badger boys' Varsity Baseball team is in the midst of an amazing season. Currently in a tie for first place in the Intermountain League, they have proved to be dominating this season. They currently have 13 wins on the season, with only two losses, and those losses were to 5-A Coeur d'Alene and the loss of one single game in a three game series against 4-A Sandpoint (the Badgers won the overall series with Sandpoint, two games to one).

They have been undefeated since March 26.

And the Badger girls' Varsity Softball team is in the carbon copy position on the distaff side.  The Badger Girls have lost only two games this season.  One of those losses was to the Varsity squad of 5-A Coeur d'Alene, and in that game the Baders spotted the first two innings to Coeur d'Alene by playing the JV Badgers, before inserting the Badger Varsity in inning #3.  The only other loss was when they split a double-header with 4-A Sandpoint, Sandpoint winning one game, and the Badger Girls taking the other game.

The Bonners Ferry girls have been undefeated since March 29, and have won all of their league games.

You can watch the Mariners crumble, or you can catch a game at BFHS, and see adrenalin-pumping highlight action such as:

• Badger Boys' Baseball pitcher with 11 strikeouts in one game
• Badger Girls' Softball pitcher with 14 strikeouts in one game (that is the equivalent of striking out every batter except one for five innings)
• Badger Boys:  Two double plays (one in each game) in a double-header series
• Badger Girls:  Defeated all comers and took first place in a five team tournament
• Badger Boys:  Back-to-back consecutive suicide squeeze plays to pull out a Badger win at the end of a tense game
• Badger Girls:  One player socked two home runs in one game.  Many other home runs by several other players throughout the season
• Badger Boys:  Two base runners picked off by the BFHS pitcher in one game
• Badger Girls:  Pitcher threw a no hitter, just two days ago.  (and except for one walk, it would have been a perfect game).
• Both Teams:  Lots of hits, lots of runs, many Badger victories where the 10-run mercy rule was invoked (for example, the Boys' team scored 14 runs in one inning in a recent game)
• Mulitiple games with completely error-free defense
• And more

Where can you see such amazing teams in action? Both the Girls' Softball and the Boys' Baseball teams play this Saturday at the BFHS Softball Stadium and the BFHS Baseball Stadium, respectively, as both Badger teams take on the team they are tied with for first place, the Timberlake Tigers. That's right.  The BFHS Boys are tied with undefeated Timberlake for first place, and the BFHS Girls are tied with undefeated Timberlake for first place.  The winner on each side will have sole possession of first place.  (As an added bonus, it's Senior Day for the Badger Boys' Baseball team).

Both the Girls' Softball and the Boys' Baseball teams are playing double headers (each is playing two games against Timberlake).  For both teams, the first game begins at 11:00 a.m., the second game at 1:00 p.m.  Be there!

Many families show up early for a little tailgating before the first pitch is thrown.  Get your sausages and chips packed.

In the meantime, take a look at our Sports section, and see the exciting brand of baseball, played right here locally, by the BFHS Badgers.
