Eastern Washington University and KHQ Television have co-sponsored the program to honor teachers in the Inland Northwest for the past 18 years. Mr. Anderson joins over 175 educators who have received the recognition over the years.

Addressing the students at the award assembly, Mr. Anderson pointed out that the students are the ones who are "awesome."

"You guys are why I show up here," he said.

He was nominated for the honor by one of his students, Arianna Nicholson, who composed a letter to the EWU / KHQ Teacher of the Month program explaining why Mr. Anderson deserved the award. During the KHQ video, Ms. Nicholson is seen discussing her nomination of Mr. Anderson. "I was always sheltered, way shy. But with the help of Mr. Anderson, he was able to bring out the good in me," she said.

Mr. Anderson is in his last year of teaching at BFHS. He recently agreed to accept new responsibilities when he was hired to serve as the incoming Director of the Boundary County Library District, where he will undoubtedly continue to influence and encourage students along with other Boundary County residents. He will finish out this school year in teaching at the high school, then will assume the full directorship at the library on October 1.
