Local Spelling Bees scheduled, winners go to Regionals

School districts throughout North Idaho will hold spelling bees in January that qualify students for the North Idaho Spelling Bee scheduled for March 19 at North Idaho College. The winner of the regional Bee will receive an all-expense paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in June, courtesy of Bee sponsor Hagadone Newspapers.

A total of 47 schools in 10 districts (including public, private and home school students across the five northern counties of Idaho) are involved in this year’s Spelling Bee, according to North Idaho Regional Spelling Bee Coordinator Mindy Patterson of North Idaho College.

District spelling bees will wrap up in January in preparation for the North Idaho Regional Spelling Bee at NIC in March.

Spelling Bees for Boundary County area students are scheduled as follows:

Boundary County Public Schools
    Ÿ Grades 4 - 5:   9:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23 at Free Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry

   Ÿ Grades 6 - 8:   11:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 13 at Boundary County Middle School


Home School District (North Idaho Home Educators Association and Inland Northwest Christian Homeschoolers)
    Ÿ 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23 at Grace Bible Church, 152 W. Prairie Ave, Coeur d’Alene

Private School Districts
    Ÿ 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 21 at North Idaho Christian School
