Speed limit now 80 mph on Montana Interstate Highways
October 16, 2015
Since October 1, drivers on the Interstate Highways in Montana are seeing new speed limits of 80 mph.

The new speed limits are the result of legislation signed last May by Montana Governor Steve Bullock.

As the speed limits have gone up, so also have the fines. Drivers who violate the new speed limits will find higher fines assessed.

There will still be some areas of the Interstates where the speed limit will be lower than 80 mph. For example, Interstates passing through some urban areas will have lower speed limits. Also, areas where additional caution is needed, such as the highway passing through narrow canyons, or around sharp curves, or other areas where extra care is required, may be posted with lower speed limits.

Recent reports are that so far, since the change occurred October 1, there has not been an increase in the amount of speeding tickets issued in Montana.
