July 6, 2015--5:00 p.m.
Cape Horn Fire at Bayview, south end of Lake Pend Oreille
As of 2:00 p.m. today, current size of the fire remains at 2,000 acres, with 0% containment.

Eight structures have been lost to the fire, which includes six homes on the eastern half of Cape Horn. Easterly winds are pushing the fire to the west, threatening Bayview, where an additional 287 structures may be threatened.

Highway 54 is closed at Bayview.

There are currently 100 personnel at the fire, also two air tankers, two helicopters, three fire boats, and two sheriff boats. The Idaho Department of Lands, the Kootenai County Sheriff, the cities of Bayview and Athol, and multiple rural fire districts are contributing help in battling the fire.

Ground crews and a bulldozer are digging fireline, and aircraft are dropping retardant and water on the fire. Fireboats are spraying water from the shore of the lake.

Currently a Type 3 Team has command of the fire. A Type 2 Team will take command of the fire tomorrow, July 7, which will allow for additional resources.
