The Bonners Ferry Idaho 2015 Penguin Plunge is now in the history books as a success. Money raised for Special Olympics in Idaho was in excess of $4,400 with additional pledges still arriving.

Early activities included interviews with Maria Rae, Boundary County's Distinguished Young Woman 2015, and the Distinguished Young Woman Candidates for 2016. Dave Kramer was also interviewed about the Police Officer Torch Run and Chief Tony Rohrwasser of South Boundary Fire discussed their involvement.

The Plunge started with the preparing of the water done by Sheriff Greg Sprungl, Chief of Police Robert Boone, and Tish Lagerway of CBP by pouring ice into .the Kootenai River.

Plungers were then gathered for a group photo with our local Special Olympic Athletes, safety divers, Sheriffs River Patrol boat, and all other Emergency Services attendees.

The Judges for this event were Mariah Rae, Distinguished Young Woman 2015, Clint Arthur, Bonners Ferry Middle School teacher, and Rick Alonzo, City Council Member. The Judges found Marciavee Cossette, first place costume and Judges Choice award, second place Willie Cowell Bonners Ferry Police Department, Jennifer Butcher CBP, Team Spirit Award to the Distinguished Yong Women Group, and the 2015 biggest money raiser was Tony Rohrwasser.

After the Plunge, everyone enjoyed a meal provided by Helping Hands of Naples, with Super One and Safeway also providing food items. The event ended with a group recital of the Special Olympic Oath, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
