Distinguished Young Women
March 18, 2015
As this year's Distinguished Young Women event approaches, we will be publishing photos and brief biographies of three program participants each week, using information provided by our local Distinguished Young Women officials.  Here are this week's biographies.

All photographs were taken by Picturesque Photography by Sara.

She has two brothers, Nathaniel and Bradlee, and two sisters, Alaina and Isabella. Chandra plans to attend Washington State University in order to later pursue a career as a pediatrician. Chandra finds historical figures Rosa Parks and Walt Disney interesting, while she also finds modern film stars Betty White and Sandra Bullock fascinating.

In her spare time, Chandra enjoys riding horses, photography, cooking, and hiking. She participates in softball, cheerleading, and works on the high school yearbook. For her talent, Chandra will be performing a pom routine.

When asked what makes her least proud of her generation, Chandra cites drug usage, bullying, and the overuse of technology.

Samantha’s plans on attending either Carroll College or Academy of Art University to study either veterinary medicine, medicine, or art. Historical personalities that interest Samantha are Edgar Allan Poe and Benjamin Franklin, while modern figures that interest her are Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Kyle. For her talent, Samantha will be creating sand art.

When asked what makes Samantha most proud of her generation she states, “I am most proud of how independent we have become.”

Shaleyna Higgins – Participant #6

Shaleyna Dawn Elizabeth Higgins, the daughter of Barry and Darlene Higgins, is sponsored by Coeur d'Alene Scottish Rite Bodies. She has one sister, Kianna. Shaleyna plans to attend the University of Idaho and double major in dance and health/PE.

When Shaleyna is not dancing, singing in the BFHS Honor Choir, or serving as Student Council Secretary, she also enjoys gymnastics, singing, choreography, volleyball, and being outdoors. Shaleyna’s favorite musical performer is Colbie Calliat, and Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King are two historical figures that interest her. For her talent, Shaleyna will be performing a self-choreographed dance to the song "River Flows in You."

When asked what makes her least proud of her generation, Shaleyna states, “I’m least proud of our overuse of social media and technology.”
