Bonner County Sheriff releases information on last night's officer involved shooting in Sandpoint

Bonner County Sheriff's officials have released additional information about last night's officer-involved shooting near Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint.

According to Detective Sergeant Gary Johnston, officers were dispatched to the hospital for what was reported to be a weapons offense. The hospital was locked down during this time.

Officers arrived at approximately 9:15 p.m. at the hospital, where they encountered a 35 year old woman outside the hospital, who police state was armed with a knife. According to the police report, the woman became aggressive with the officers, and refused to comply with officers' orders to release the knife.

"The officers responded to the threat using lethal force," stated Detective Sergeant Johnston in the report.

"Despite immediate medical intervention by Bonner EMS and Bonner General Hospital Emergency Department personnel, she did not survive," said Detective Sergeant Johnston.

A multi-agency investigation, coordinated by the Bonner County Sheriff's office, is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Gary Johnston at the Bonner County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office is stating that due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, names of all involved parties are being withheld at this time.
