Meet commission candidate Jeannie Robinson

April 29, 2014
By Jeannie Robinson

My name is Jeannie Robinson. I am running for the position of Boundary County Commissioner in the May 20 primary.

I have had years of experience working as a public servant for the citizens of Boundary County. I want to take every avenue to work together with all entities and departments in the county to try to find ways to make the most of what we have. I believe everyone should feel free to come to the commissioner's office and feel welcome, feel that their opinions will be heard and considered.

I want to work for and with the people of Boundary County. With the exception of living in Washington and Illinois from 1966 to 1968, I have lived here.

From 1978 into 1983 I worked at the .C. Penney store here in town. I was employed for Boundary County as a district court clerk deputy from 1983 to 2000 with one year as secretary/receptionist at the extension office.

During my years in the courthouse, I was selected as one of the members who worked together to create the Personnel Classification Committee, seeing that all job descriptions and positions were fair and appropriately described and graded.

In 2000, I worked for Dr. Will McCreight until his practice closed; then for Kaniksu Health Services; for two years I was receptionist at the Department of Health and Welfare.

I retired from the City of Bonners Ferry in 2011.

My dad and mom were the Honorable Ralph J. Mills and Copeland Post Master Dottie Mills. I am married 30 years to my super-supportive husband and best friend, Rod Robinson. Our children are Jim Robinson, Karen Robinson and fiancé Kevin Church, Kristi and Vern Wilson and Travis and Kelly Hinthorn. We have 11 grandchildren.

I am running for county commissioner because we need economic development so people who want to stay here can stay here. We all need to come together to have dialog to find ways to get businesses to become established here that will provide jobs for families to make a sustainable living in Boundary County so as not to have to leave home to find employment elsewhere.

We need to keep our dollars circulating in Boundary County, money earned and money spent within the county.

We need to work together to find solutions to county issues. There are issues regarding the Restorium funding. I, as a commissioner, would want to work diligently with the Boundary County citizens and taxpayers to find a positive resolution for all involved.

I hope to get Boundary County citizens involved, to develop the feeling that they are an important part of the whole system, that they are a part of the quality of life in our county, that we can make it stronger and better for our children.

I want to help keep our community thriving for everyone, young and old, for generations to come. I hope to see businesses opening, not closing.

I want people to believe they have a voice and to feel confident that I will listen with respect and consideration to what they think should be done and how their local tax dollars should be used. I want Boundary County citizens to contribute their input, their ideas and their concerns.

I am currently on the Restorium Advisory Board and am president of the Friends of the Restorium. I provide music for various fundraisers throughout the year, including the Festival of Trees, the yearly museum dinner, and every Friday for residents at the Restorium. I am involved with the Boundary County Fair each year coordinating entertainment held in the gazebo, I was a member of Beta for five years.

Again this year I have been asked to participate in the "Reality Town" program at the high school, which is an excellent short course for students to learn about everyday choices, requirements and responsibilities that will affect their lives after high school.

One of my favorite community-oriented roles has been officiating several very special wedding ceremonies for some folks in Boundary County, uniting some families and marrying some newlyweds who are now raising their little Boundary County citizens.

I would appreciate your consideration and your vote at the primary. I will work hard for the citizens of Boundary County.
