Commissioners' races won't be decided in May

With the deadline for declaring candidacy and
appearing on the ballot past, three county
incumbents head toward the general election
unopposed, but the races for two seats on the
board of county commissioners won't be decided
until the last ballot is counted in November.
Unless there are candidates who decide to run a
write-in campaign, Boundary County Clerk Glenda
Poston, Assessor David Ryals and Coroner Mick
Mellett only have to wait to be sworn in next
year.
The race for treasurer, an office being vacated
by the retirement of Jenny Fessler, will be
decided in the May primary, with three
candidates; Sue Larson, Becky James and Scot
Lindsay running on the Republican ticket.
The local excitement in election 2014 in
Boundary County will be for the District 1 seat
on the board of county commissioners, with two
Republicans and a surprise Independent candidate
running.
In the District 2 race, two Republicans, a
Democrat and two Independents will vie for the
seat currently held by Walt Kirby, who is
seeking re-election on the Republican ticket.
In the District 1 race for the center seat on
the board, incumbent Republican LeAlan Pinkerton
will face Jeannie Robinson in the primary, and
the winner will see a challenge from a familiar
face in November as former county sheriff and
commissioner Ron Smith seeks his old familiar
seat back as an Independent.
In District 2, Kirby will face Phillip Sweet in
May, while former Idaho Senator Tim Tucker is
running unchallenged on the Democratic ticket.
Tucker and the Republican winner will join
Independents John White and Terry Capurso on the
November general ballot.
In the precinct committeeman races, only one is
being challenged as Dave Kramer and Sara Hall
vie to fill the Naples Precinct seat on the
Boundary County Republican Central Committee. |
