Election 2014 warming up

March 12, 2014
The filing period for candidates for elected office who'll be running in the May 20 primary election opened March 3, and election 2014 at the local level is already shaping up to be interesting.

Both incumbent Republican county commissioners are facing challengers in the primary, with District 1 commissioner LeAlan Pinkerton facing a challenge from Jeannie Robinson and District 2 county commissioner Walt Kirby being challenged by Stanley "Philip" Sweet.

Deputy treasurer Susan M. "Sue" Larson, who threw her hat in after incumbent Jenny Fessler's announcement that she is retiring, will face Becky James on the Republican ticket.

As yet, neither clerk Glenda Poston nor assessor David Ryals face either a primary or general challenge.

Thus far, none of the precinct committeeman positions in either party are challenged; candidacy petitions for the Republican Central Committee have been filed by Robert D. Pluid, Moyie Springs, Linda Alt, Valley View, Dave Kramer, Naples and Tim Dillin, Copeland; petitions to serve on the Democratic Central Committee have been filed to date by Greg Johnson, North Bonners Ferry, Della Owens, Moyie Springs, and Stephen Howlett, Naples.

The deadline for candidates for elective office in Idaho wishing their name to appear on the primary ballot is 5 p.m. this Friday, March 14. Those who wish to run write-in campaigns have until April 4.
