District 1A to get new face

February 19, 2014
A ten-year triumvirate in North Idaho state politics will come to an end, as Eric Anderson (R) Priest Lake, recently announced that he will not seek a fifth term as Ditrict 1A representative so that he can focus his efforts full time on fighting the spread of invasive zebra and quagga mussels in northern Idaho waters.

Even before Monday's announcement, he faced a challenger, and while she said she's not surprised by Anderson's announcement, Blanchard biologist and family farmer Heather Scott said she remains committed to revealing the damages done to North Idaho residents by Anderson, District 1B Representative George Eskridge and District 1 Senator Shawn Keough, who she said have worked together to foster the rise of big government at the expense of the independent spirit and values esteemed by the constituents they should be serving.

Scott, a Republican, will hold the second of two Boundary County Community meetings at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 20 in the extension office meeting room to share her views, answer your questions and explain how we can work together reduce big government.

"In light of the recent announcement that Representative Anderson is not seeking re-election, I want to reassure the voters of District 1 that I am still very focused on my campaign," Heather said. "His decision does not come as a surprise to me, based on feedback I have been receiving at my community meetings.

"It is encouraging that so many people have come to realize how much harm is being inflicted on Boundary and Bonner County families by the legislators who voted for the Idaho Health Care Insurance Exchange. Residents understand that it was an unnecessary vote for Obamacare, and now realize that the only beneficiaries are the hospital and insurance industries who profit from federal control of Idaho healthcare. Voters also realize that Idaho is the only Republican state in the U.S. that voted for a government health insurance exchange.

"This awakening is making life difficult for the incumbents who voted for it. I re-iterate my platform to repeal the state healthcare insurance exchange, strengthen state sovereignty, advance real family values, and promote term limits.

"I will continue to inform the people of North Idaho how our legislators’ voting is affecting District 1. I will also continue to discuss my platform and plans at my community meetings. Potential Republican candidates should understand the core principles of North Idaho voters. The State Republican platform expresses these values well. The voters of District 1 have made it very clear to me that they are tired of the lack of representation at the state level. I am humbled by the overwhelming support shown to me by District 1 voters."
