Weekend weather could be ugly

A flood watch was issued this morning, and this
afternoon, the Weather Service issued high wind
and winter storm warnings on top of it. If
predictions hold true, it could be an ugly
weekend, weather-wise.
The winter storm warning is in effect above
4,000 feet from 10 p.m. today through noon
tomorrow, and calls for six to 12 inches of new
snow pushed by wind gusts up to 55 miles per
hour, with sustained winds of 15 to 25 miles per
hour.
The storm could bring a scattering of snow to
the valley floor, but is expected to change to
rain as the day warms up, hence the areal flood

Of more concern at lower elevations are winds
that could be strong enough to down trees,
causing power outages and damage property. The
high wind warning goes into effect at 4 a.m.
Saturday and lasts 24 hours, ending at 4 a.m.
Sunday.
Steady southwest winds of 30 to 40 miles per
hour are predicted, with gusts of up to 60
miles per hour possible.
Conditions for this weekend in the Idaho
Panhandle appear to be just right for staying
