Teen killed in collision with train

November 27, 2013
A 19-year-old Sandpoint woman died this afternoon after colliding with a train at a railroad crossing near Elmira.

According to the Idaho State Police, Kayle Jean Porter was driving a 2003 BMW X5 north on Highway 95 and entered the turn lane to turn east on West Elmira Road.

After making the turn, she failed to stop at the railroad crossing stop sign and was hit by a northbound Burlington Northern Sante Fe train.

The collision remains under investigation.
