Flapjacks for Head Start

Friends of Head Start is inviting the public to
breakfast to help children in the five northern
counties benefit from early education.
The Friends of Head Start Flapjack Fundraiser at
Applebee’s in Coeur d’Alene November 23 will
cost $10 per person for pancakes, sausage, eggs
and drinks. The money raised will help remove
barriers that prevent Head Start children from
learning.
In the past, Friends of Head Start (FOHS), a
non-profit group, purchased an oven element for
a family that couldn’t cook. Nutritious, warm
meals are important to learning. FOHS helped
families buy gas for cars to drive children to
Head Start programs. It enabled parents to
finish their high school equivalent document—GED--so
they could find better-paying jobs.
“Providing our children with the best start to
life benefits every one of us,” said Jane
Morgan, chairman of the Friends of Head Start
board.
Head Start is a federally-funded
school-readiness program for children from
low-income families. About 300 children ages
three through five attend the eight Head Start
programs in the five northern counties.
Head Start programs emphasize education,
nutrition and health for the entire family. A
child’s success largely depends on the health
and wellness of the whole family.
The FOHS Flapjack Fundraiser on Saturday,
November 23, will run from 8 to 10 a.m.
