Halloween, election day coming to VVES

October 29, 2013
By Principal Gary Pfleuger

Let’s start with the past: The Valley View PTO Book Fair and Community Meal was a great success! The total book fair sales were $4,890. Of that, $1,370 in book profits went to teacher classroom libraries; 180 meals were served!

All the volunteers were beautiful ... cooks, servers, readers, book clerks, cleanup crew ... all volunteers, all beautiful! Thank you PTO!

Speaking of PTO, the box tops collection for the Fall brought in $1,251! LiteHouse lids/labels and Campbell's soup labels also provide financial support. Thank you all; let’s keep this free money coming in!

Now, to the future: For those who like to plan ahead, the fourth and fifth grade ski trips have been established. The fourth grade will go to Schweitzer on January 23 and February 13; the fifth grade on February 6 and March 6. This is a great opportunity for our students to experience this life-time activity.

Skiing is sponsored by our physical education program, with aluminum cans drives and other fund raising providing needed scholarships. Donations are happily accepted.

HALLOWEEN IS COMING!

I like having fun, as much as the next guy, but October 31 is on Thursday. Thursday is first and foremost a “School Day!" Please do not send your child to school in their costume. Most classes will hold socials in the afternoon.

Please hold the blood/guts to a minimum and no weapons.

Bonners Ferry High School holds a great “Trick or Treat” social for all children from 5 to 7 p.m.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held during the first week of November. Your attendance at these meetings is crucial! You, the parent, are the primary teacher for your child!

We are a resource to the education which begins in the home. The school cannot do its job without your on-going support and cooperation! We hope to have 100% participation at these most important meetings!

Finally, elections for the VVES Student Council will be held on November 5, “Election Day!"

The School President, V.P., and Treasurer are selected from the fifth grade. A Class Representative will be elected from each of the fourth and fifth grade classes. A student who runs for office must have their parents’ and teachers’ permission; speeches will be held first thing on Election Day.

Unlike our grown up government officials, no false promises, bribes or trash talk is allowed! Come watch the speeches; you will enjoy the event!
