Fire destroys family's home

October 27, 2013
An apparent chimney fire this evening destroyed a home and vehicle and claimed the lives of two dogs and some poultry, but fortunately, none of the occupants.

The fire was reported at 8 p.m. at 1 Twin Rivers Road just east of Moyie Springs at the home of Bonnie Hibble, Mike Phillips and their two children, Austin, 6, and Kayla, 4.

According to family friend Tori Dexter, Bonnie and Mike had recently separated and Bonnie and the two children were staying with a relative in Bonners Ferry.

Mike and Bonnie's sister, Christina, and her husband Brandon, also living in the home, she said, had gone to the Moyie Store, and when they returned, the house was engulfed in flames.

According to Dexter, the family lost everything in the fire except a few clothes Bonnie had with her.

Mike's grandmother, Nita Hilliard, 7323 Blaine Street, Bonners Ferry, located next door to Bonners Family Medicine, is accepting items donated for the family.

According to Mike's mother, Tina Lloyd, Kayla wears a size 8 shoe and size 2t clothes; Austin wears a size 12 shoe and size 5t clothes. Mike and Brandon are both about the same size, and Mike wear size xl shirt and coat and size 32-32 pants. Christina wears size 1-3 pants and small shirt.

Dexter is in the process of having a drop-off point set up at Mountain Springs Church, and has offered to pick up donated items for delivery. She can be reached at (208) 304-3954.
