Fun and learning as school year winds down

The Knowledge Fair and Dessert Auction held on May 16 was fun, informative and productive ... All participants and guests walked away knowing more than they knew when they arrived!

The results in the Science Division were: 1st Place and Judges’ Choice Award Austin Kemmis, “Bridge Weight Capacity;" 2nd Place, Serenity Fahey, “Do Plants Need Water?;" 3rd, Michael Youngworth, “Potato Clock;" Most Original Award, Alex Gary, “How Chemicals Affect Hair;" and Best Display, Kelsey English, “Carbon Dioxide Bubble."

The results of the Academic Division were: 1st Place and Most Original to Hannah Andrews, “Did Grandpa Lie About His Age & Why?;" 2nd Place, Katie Clairmont, “Why Should You Learn a Second Language?;" 3rd Place, Pierce Hite, “Battle Tactics Prior to Gunpowder;" Judges Choice, Sydney Nelson, “Edible Fungus;” and Bethany Coogan earned Best Display for “The Alamo."

I would like to offer a special note of thanks to our judges who donated their time, energy and knowledge to our school: chief judge Julie Colson and judges Chris Pease, Brandon Glaza, Ed Katz, Bill Leach, Carrick Remaley, Albert Solt and Steve Petesch.

The evening event was also a great success. Over 200 pulled pork sandwiches were served and more than 70 desserts were auctioned off to the skilled bantering of Dave Gause.

The event raised over $1,500!

All comers enjoyed the collective voices of the fourth grade students, who honored Idaho in song.

All in all, it was a great evening. This will become an annual event during the month of May. Start thinking about it now!

On another student highlight, third Grader Joziah Eberhardt was awarded 2nd Place in all of Region 1 and 2 in the Idaho Public Television’s writers’ contest. His entry will be posted on line on June 1 at www.idahoptv.org/kids.

The next major celebration will be the second Annual Talent Show, scheduled for 2 p.m. May 30.

All participating students must have parents’ permission and have successfully completed an audition. Following this event, on June 3, we will commemorate all the unpaid workers, who make things ‘tick’ at Valley View during our Volunteer Appreciation Celebration.
