New pilots in our midst

May 10, 2013

Northern Air

Katherine Boger
Northern Air’s student pilots are taking advantage of the summer weather. Two young, new pilots are in our midst as of May 8. Katherine Boger, Bonners Ferry, and Ian Wheeler, Sandpoint took their private pilot check-rides, and came out feeling higher than the clouds!

Katherine was the recipient of a 2012 EAA Youth Flight Training Scholarship, which helped pay her way to her first solo flight, and she has volunteered and worked her way through the remaining flight training to earn her pilot certificate.

Katherine is hoping to make aviation her career, and plans to continue her studies and earn her instrument rating and commercial rating. Her first passenger will be her close friend.

Ian Wheeler
Ian Wheeler began his flight training in July, 2012, and had taken his first solo by October. He has also worked to pay his own way through his flight training. Ian has been accepted into the ROTC program at University of Idaho and hopes that his pilot license will put him on the fast track to becoming an Air Force pilot. But for his first flight as a certified pilot he will take his dad.

Tana Schneider, who was the recipient of the first EAA Youth Flight Training Scholarship in 2009, has been attending air traffic control school in Anchorage, Alaska, and was recently awarded another scholarship from the Seaplanes Pilot Association to get her float plane rating at the school of her choice, all expenses paid.

Jasper Jessop
Jasper Jessop of Bonners Ferry earned his tailwheel rating in Shem Johnson’s J4 Cub on May 6. Jasper is a private pilot and instrument rated pilot as well.

Thank you to all the local pilots, parents and community members who help these young, talented people realize their dreams and open the door to all the possibilities the world has to offer.

Northern Air is located at the Boundary County Airport and offers world class flight training, scenic flights of beautiful North Idaho, charter service, and aircraft maintenance, all right here in Bonners Ferry.

Huckleberry Pancake breakfasts are held at the airport on the last Saturday of the month from May through September and all the proceeds to towards helping local youth achieve their aviation dreams. Visit us on Highway 2 just past Three Mile, or at www.northernair.biz or call (208) 267-4359.
