Ugly critter rears its head

April 28, 2013
By Principal Gary Pfleuger
Valley View Elementary

We must be having an incredible time, “if time flies when you’re having fun!” The end of the school year is coming quickly. The first two weeks of ISAT Testing have gone very well.

We only have the Language Arts section left (3rd thru 5th) and Science for the fifth graders. These are, traditionally, the tests our students do not score as well on.

This year, with encouragement and enhanced instruction, we will show improvement!

Following this, we can get back to the regular business of education.

World-wide, there are many pieces and parts to any school program.

One inconvenient piece has raised its ugly head again—head lice. Recently, we have had a couple of cases at VVES. To dispel the myth, we do not raise them at school. They ride in!

At school we tell the students to keep their coats, hats and heads away from each other. When a case is identified, we check the entire class. We stick firmly to the "no nit policy."

If you would like to help us with classroom checks, please stop in or give us a call. We will provide the training and reinforce the confidentiality issue.

Otherwise, please make time to check your own child at home. It will give you a chance to bond with your child (read, review states and capitals, multiplication tables or just talk).

Head lice do not discriminate, they cross all social and economic lines.

In an effort to keep you all informed, I will again print the list of upcoming activities. Some dates have been changed, so make sure to look it over.
