Tremendous way to help schools ... vote!

March 6, 2013
By Principal Gary Pfleuger
Valley View Elementary

Let’s start this edition with an update and celebration of our ‘Beloved PTO’! The Valley View School Carnival was great fun! The food was good, the games were fun and the dunk booth was a splash! The reason for the event was to have family fun; on top of that we raised $1,700!

The raffle brought in an additional $630 and the math-a-thon $1,900. For a full update from the PTO, come to the next meeting at 4:15 p.m. March 13.

We are in the middle of "I Love to Read" week! Dr. Seuss, whose birthday this was built around, has been celebrated and quoted.

Besides writing over 40 children’s books (which challenge our phonemic skills), he has great advice to offer, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

I am proud to be a part of the positive reputation at VVES. Active participation within the school has shown tremendous growth over the last year. Visiting authors have strengthened our written language instruction and volunteer participation has increased, all thanks to the Idaho Reads VISTA Program.

Financial contributions have come through the PTO, as well as, public support of BoxTops, Campbell Soup Labels and Litehouse lids/labels.

Another tremendously powerful way to help is to VOTE; make your opinion count.

On Tuesday, March 12, our community will hold a Maintenance & Operation Levy to support Boundary County School District #101.

Attached to this copy of the Principal Press is an information sheet. Though I cannot offer my opinion on which way to vote, I can provide factual data. Please look this over; we will see you at the polls!

Upcoming Events:
3/6 Read-In Day and Popcorn at last recess
3/6 3:00 PM Assembly
3/7 9:00ish Stop, Drop & Read
3/7 5th grade ski
3/10 Daylight Savings Time begins. Move the clock ahead one hour!

P.S. Today a point was made at Valley View! Through improved reading and writing skills, students learned they can make a change! My new appearance should provoke this thought!
