Says Moyie City Council meeting an eye opener
May 16, 2016
May 15, 2016

To the Editor:

I haven’t been to a City of Moyie Springs council meeting in several years. A neighbor asked for support about road conditions, so I attended the May 4, 2016 meeting.

Wow! New flooring, a family-sized refrigerator, bottled water furnished for the council members, (Moyie water not good enough?) and dozens of cookies! Wow! I wonder if the plastic is recycled or just tossed in the dumpster?

People were asked to sign in upon entering and asked for their name and address when addressing the council. Most were also asked to stand when addressing the council.

The quirk? I was sitting next to a person who has been a resident for several years and attended meetings for about the last six months. Yet she did not know the names of the council members, the Mayor, the city attorney, the fire chief, the public works supervisor! None of the aforementioned stood or introduced themselves when addressing questions from the residents. Why?

Perhaps it is time to have the city attorney, fire chief, and the public works supervisor be seated at a table next to the council? Also, how difficult would it be to use one of the computers to print out (in LARGE font) the names of council members and employees and hang them from the places they are sitting? Oh heck, just use a magic marker and save printer ink.

Just a thought,
Rosanne Smith
