Thank you for another great Penguin Plunge

March 18, 2013
So why do people jump in the cold Kootenai River in March? It is for a great cause to benefit Idaho Special Olympic athletes with year round sports training opportunities at no cost to the athletes.

This year's Penguin Plunge “Freezin for a Reason” was another successful event raising close to $5,000 for Special Olympics Idaho.

The success of this event is due to the community support from volunteers who help plan the event, to those that sponsor Plungers, and the business community that contributes merchandise, and especially the Plungers who make the jump to raise funds.

We would like to thank the business’s that helped us out this year with product donations, and encourage you to let them know they are appreciated, too; Bonners Ferry Sign Company, Super One Foods, Safeway, Bonners Ferry Conoco, Kootenai River Brewing Company, Mugsy’s, Under the Sun, and Walmart.

JoJo Baker donated his time once again to do an outstanding job as Master of Ceremonies, and a big thanks to all the people and businesses that made financial donations to support a Plunger.

The Penguin Plunge is always held on the second Saturday of March, we look forward to having you join us next year at the event. Recently the Knights of Columbus voted to step up and help with our local Special Olympics Team to make sure that they have the support to train and compete.

Another group of individuals that helped make this event possible and safe were the first responders from Boundary Volunteer Ambulance, Boundary Search and Dive Rescue Team, the City Police and the Sheriffs Office.

Promoting the event and the news coverage provided by Bonners Ferry Herald, Newsbf.com and KBFI contributed to the success and really helped getting the word and awareness out to the public.

What a great community we have, thank you all.
