Hang on to your hats, it's going to be a wild election year

“To a friends home, the road is never long.”

Hang on to your hats and keep a sense of humor because 2012 is going to be a wild election year … the fat lady is going to sing loud and clear, in fact she is already humming…

This forecast for the coming year is predicated by the current (and ongoing) tap dance by our nations 2 ½ political parties. We’ve been witness to so much waffling by all those good folks on capitol hill that International House of Pancakes has sent a team of corporate legal eagles to ascertain if there are any profitable lessons to be learned.

It is no longer business as usual right here at home where the rubber meets the road, either. The fat lady began to hum when a group of good folks stood up and reminded a couple of our elected leaders to get their act together.

There went blind adherence to incumbent activities boys and girls … and about time as we have to get serious about turning this leaking boat around. I don’t think the good folks out there are going to sit back and simply wait on formal campaigns … nope, too many signs recently of good people speaking out in demand of common sense approach to running OUR government. Cut out unwanted and unnecessary costly elements in our government now; not down the road, now.

What part of "we don’t have the funds" don’t they understand? Unable to function without a “buzz” word? Try downsize on and see if that helps.

You, the majority, have the answer to our debt problem. Let us march to the majority drums and tell the special interest groups to take a hike.

Finally a summer! Walked around town last week and made it a point in my wandering to stop in at Shelman’s Home Furnishings to wish a super lady well in her quest to shut down her business on main street. I have been privileged to know Maureen Shelman for over 15 years. Maureen goes into my file of classic north Idaho ladies right along with Murlene Skeen and Rhonda Vogl. These are my ladies … tough, smart, fearless.

My old heart takes a hit as I witness business’s closing down all around town during the past two years. Maureen has made a business decision … no whining or trying to blame anyone or anything else on the demise of Shelman’s Furnishings. Mark my words; we have not seen the last of Maureen around town.

August is shaping up to be another classic Boundary County summer month. Our fair gets better every year and we seem to be adding a new event to the calendar with each passing year. Reminds me of the old song “…..yep, right here in river city.”

What say we all remain on the lookout for people whom we would like to have run and manage our government. Someone who has the moral courage to say “No” to frivolous, costly projects and ability not to waver when cutting programs so as to get our fiscal house in order. Someone who truly realizes when another straw cannot be added to the camel’s load and refuses any and all attempts to convince the camel otherwise.

Take care and do something nice for yourself while you’re at it …
