Rambling with Uncle Bud ...

Uncle Bud is back … and he is “pi***d” off!

If you get to read this, my former editor has truly mellowed.

He used to wear out a box of red pencils editing my fishing column way back when. Too old to scramble along streams and fight the brush around lakes to write about fishing, so I whined and cried so much that publisher Mike Weland is allowing me to get back on line to all of you fine Boundary County people out there.

A little background is in order to set the stage, so to speak, about this new column of mine.

It is incumbent upon old farts like me to vent about whatever strikes their mood at the time. Yours truly has been saving up a lot of “this need to be asked and told,” and we’ll get to a few items for you to chew on in just a little bit.

My advanced age is the only thing I can blame my rambling on as I live in “Taintville” … my little world is located between Moyie Springs and Bonners Ferry, hence the label.

T’aint either one.

I’m surrounded by some of the finest neighbors you could find and ours is a truly clean and quiet place to grow old. So here I sit, happy (or should be) as a clam at high tide. Time to vent …

Our nation has been going through some rough and troubling issues on a national level which have certainly impacted us down here at “user level."

Our elected leadership seems to want to sit around in meetings as opposed to taking some effective action.

Here we are, the greatest nation of free people in the world. We can dream up and start projects like crazy but ... think about this boys and girls … we have yet to learn how to shut off or down costly programs that no longer perform a viable function or service.

I’m going to reach back to my Army days (no war stories) and once again think about the young men and women whom I served with and led.

Innovative creatures these 20 and 30 year olds were. They did not need bells and whistles, they wanted simple things that worked, and when something no longer worked towards accomplishing the mission, they threw the item/idea out the window and kept on going.

So here we sit, faced with the need to cut back, and what happens?

Some mental giant comes up with a plan to get our obese kids lean and mean again by taking them away from their parents and putting them in some controlled environment.

I have two questions to ask the idiot, or idiots if this is a joint proposal: Where is the funding coming from? Who has the authority, short of God, to take our youth away from their parents?

Time to get serious, good people.

Got to go because they are getting ready for the 14th run of the Casey Anthony trial and I sure would rather watch it again as opposed to cutting the grass.

Take care of you and yours and enjoy the summer.
