Sonya Tice is BCH non-patient care Employee of
the Month |
December 13, 2017 |
Sonya Tice began her career at Boundary
Community Hospital almost eight years ago. She
began as a per diem Health Unit Coordinator
(HUC) for the Emergency Department (ED) and
medical floor, working both night and day shifts
to meet the needs of the hospital.
A full time HUC position with the Extended Care
Facility (ECF) opened up a year or so later, and
Sonya moved there, where she put her
organizing/management skills to good use.
Sonya's southern charm was a big hit with
patients and their families, and her
ever-present smile and team spirit (along with
her baked goods) made her a well-loved
co-worker.
When the opportunity arose to move to the
medical records department, Sonya accepted the
challenge, and she shines in her efforts to
provide our patients and hospital employees with
the great service they deserve, to such an
extent that she is Boundary Community Hospital's
December non-patient care Employee of the Month!
In addition to her duties in the medical records
department, on multiple occasions she has
covered the ED/medical HUC position at times of
sickness or injury -- sometimes coming in after
very little (or no) sleep before a night shift
or getting stuck additional hours during a snow
emergency.
Medical records is all about the details, and
Sonya is thorough and meticulous in her review
of the records that come through and leave from
the department. She assists patients in getting
what they need in a timely manner, as well as
handling insurance and other details, in
addition to meeting the reporting needs of
hospital staff and monitoring the flow of work
in the department to allow for timely charge
submission.
In addition, she trains the hospital's HUC staff
on medical record functions, and provides
ongoing support and training for them as changes
arise. |
