Fireworks are permitted in Palmer City limits to ring in the New Year on December 31, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. But please note ... there are restrictions. In Wasilla, Class C fireworks are okay from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. New Years Eve.

By ordinance, the fireworks must be Class C and have been purchased legally in the State of Alaska, and a responsible person 21 years or older must supervise their use.

It is illegal, even on New Years, to light off firecrackers in these restricted areas:

   1. Within 250 feet of any health care facility or assisted living facility, library, school, or place of worship;

   2. Within 500 feet of any automotive service station or other premises where flammable liquids or gases are stored;

   3. Within or from any structure or vehicle;

   4. On or within 50 feet of waterways within the city limits.

Enjoy a fun and safe New Years' celebration!
