Three Badger athletes receive North Idaho Sports
Awards at Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet:

The North Idaho Sports Banquet was held on
Saturday, April 14, sponsored by the Idaho
Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame was organized to
honor those individuals from the state of Idaho
who have achieved significant recognition in an
area of athletic endeavor, or have made a
special contribution to Idaho Athletics.
At this year's North Idaho Sports Banquet, four
Idaho athletes of years past were inducted into
the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame, and the
organization's North Idaho Sports Award winners
were announced. Those winners included athletes
from Bonners Ferry High School.
Inductees into the Hall of Fame included
Univeristy of Idaho football players Sam
Merriman, who played for the Vandals from
1979-1983, and Sherridan May, who played from
1991-1994. The other two inductees were high
school athletes of the 1960s, Denny Almquist of
Mullan, and John Shelt of Kellogg.
Three Bonners Ferry High School athletes were
honored for their 2017 accomplishemnts. The
North Idaho Sports Award winner for High School
Softball for 2017 for classifications 1A, 2A,
and 3A is Kadi Bateman, a pitcher for the
Badgers, who is a senior this year and who will
be playing college softballl next year for Snow
College in Utah.

Two BFHS baseball players won the North Idaho
Sports Award for High School Baseball for 2017
for classifications 1A, 2A, and 3A. Those were
Jesse Dunham and Nick Sabin.
Other Intermountain League North Idaho Sports
Award winners announced at the banquet were:
• High School Female Team of the Ydear, 1A-3A:
Coeur d'Alene Charter Soccer, who won the 3A
Girls' Soccer State Championship last October.
• High School Male Coach of the Year, 1A-3A:
Simon Miller, Kellogg Golf.
• High School Female Coach of the Year, 1A-3A:
Stacy Smith, Coeur d'Alene Charter Soccer
• High School Male Athlete of the Year, 1A-3A:
Chase Jerome, Kellogg, and Ryan Morgan, Kellogg.
• High School Female Athlete of the Year, 1A-3A:
Shelby Starr, Timberlake
• High School Boys' Golf: Cade Finlay, Kellogg.
• High School Girls' Basketball, 1A-3A: Shelby
