Badger runners district bound

October 9, 2012
The Bonners Ferry High School cross country team raced at the William Johnson Sandpoint Invitational, held at Riley Creek Park in Laclede Saturday.

Several Badgers ran season and personal bests against competition from Coeur d'Alene Charter, Timberlake, Lake City, Priest River, Lakeland, Newport, Kootenai, and Sandpoint.

In the varsity boys race, Luke Reoch placed fifth. Standout races were had by Tyson Boorman and Bradley Thompson, who continued their strategy of moving through the pack mid-race.

Seniors Jared Lysne and Alec Perkins also ran competitively.

In the girls varsity race, Aimee Sayers and Hannah Lysne led the way, with solid pack racing coming from Jordan Merz, Cheyanne White, and Klarity Rice.

"Sayers exhibited solid leadership.  She has been working hard in practice, and it showed on Saturday," said Coach Paul Bonnell.

Some of the personal bests came in the junior varsity races.

Brother and sister duo Louis and Sally Balcaen both made significant gains from previous races.

Both varsity teams placed sixth.

Said Bonnell, "The athletes are competing and learning to work and race hard.  We hope to stay healthy and motivated as we finish up the season."

The Badgers will compete next at Districts, which will be held October 18 at Pinehurst Golf Course, hosted by Kellogg High School.
