High water doesn't make for good fishing

All the water in the area rivers and streams has
put a damper on the fishing this season. High
flows are making rivers and streams very
hazardous for anglers and fishing along these
waters is not recommended. Most high mountain
lakes are still snowed in, but warmer weather
expected later this week may help open access to
these lakes. Check with the land management
agency office nearest your intended fishing
destination to find out about high mountain lake
access.
Mosquito Flats Reservoir outside of Challis is
open and fishing well right now. Pink
marshmallows with nightcrawlers are attracting
trout as are copper and blue Panther Martins.
Mackay Reservoir has been good for anglers
trolling for kokanee, but the water is beginning
to turn off-color from runoff.
Families interested in a safe and fun fishing
outing can find good fishing at Kids' Creek
Pond, Hayden Ponds, and Hyde Creek Pond in the
Salmon area. Williams Lake is another good
Salmon-area destination for both bank and boat
fishing for trout. PowerBait and worms are good
options for bank fishing. Trolling using
spinners has also produced some good fishing.
Challis area anglers can enjoy some family
fishing at Blue Mountain Meadows pond.
The season for chinook salmon opens in the Upper
Salmon River beginning June 25. Anglers may fish
for chinook salmon from the cable car crossing
approximately 150 yards below Island Park in
Salmon, upstream to a posted boundary
approximately 20 yards above the mouth of the
Pahsimeroi River. This season will remain open
until further notice.
