Warriors down Knights for the first time

April 19, 2011
For the first time in the six years they've been playing against each other, the Bonners Ferry Warriors lacrosse club beat the Logos Knights, a small Christian school in Moscow, Idaho.

The Knights led throughout most of the game April 13, leading 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, 3-1 at the half and 7-3 going into the final quarter. The Warriors, playing their home opener, got their game on in the fourth, despite being down five goals, 8-3, early in the quarter.

Midfielder Stephen Bachman started the comeback, winning five face in the fourth quarter while attackmen Loren Abeyta, Sean Miser and Brennan Mitchell and middies Josh Miller, Joel Fields, Tyler Childers and Zach Wilson kept the pressure on for the Warriors.

Leading the Warriors in scoring was Bryan Murphy, with four goals; Colin MacDonald and Mitch Carroll knotted two goals each. Stephen Bachmann scored the winning goal in sudden death, making the final score 9-8.

The Warrior defense was led by goalie Wesley Kreiner, who had 14 saves on the game; and defensemen Kyle Mullin, Shane Hefferman, Clayton Wang, Hunter Borer, Philip Madura and Morris McAllister limited the Knights to just two goals in the last quarter and in the seven minutes played in overtime.

The Warriors traveled to Coeur d'Alene Friday, April 15, to face the Lake City High School Timberwolves, and opened the scoring when Carroll found the back of the net from about 12 yards out.

The Timberwolves answered back within a minute and never surrendered the lead for the rest of the game, winning 12-7. Even though it's a tick in the loss column, the score is indicative of how the Warriors are improving with each game played. In years past, the Timberwolves typically racked up double-digit wins.

Warrior goalie Kreiner faced 26 shots on goal, and made an impressive 14 saves.

The Warriors played a home game today against the Coeur d'Alene Vikings, and they'll be back on their field at the fairgrounds at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21, to take on the Gonzaga Prep Bulldogs.
