Local area choir completes tour of Iceland,
now brings their concert back home
July 26, 2018
"It’s our homecoming concert... complete with sides and stories! Hope you can come join us! What a trip!" says SPIRITSONG in a press release about their upcoming concert to celebrate and inform regarding their recently completed tour of Iceland. The upcoming performances will be this Saturday in Creston, British Columbia, and Sunday in Bonners Ferry.

SPIRITSONG international women’s ensemble presents will present their homecoming concert from their recent tour to Iceland on both sides of the U.S. / Canadian international border. On Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m., they will perform at the Prince Charles Auditorium in Creston. On Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. they will present their concert at the Pearl Theater in Bonners Ferry.

SPIRITSONG is 15 voice ensemble featuring women from Bonners Ferry and from Creston, under the direction of Vicki Blake Thompson, accompanied by Jim Thompson on EWI (electronic wind instrument). Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students. They are available at Bonners Books and Mountain Mike’s Nutrition and in Creston at Black Bear Books.

The concert is a reflection of their tour of Iceland. It features the music they presented six times in various communities in Iceland, along with slides and stories from their journey. The program, titled “Folk to Folk,” features folk songs of North America which speak to the common human desires for freedom, connection, and simple joys. They will also share a couple Icelandic folk songs they learned from the women’s choirs with whom they shared workshops and performances with along the way.

The music includes many familiar tunes from the United States and Canada in a staged performance with movement, and incorporates photographs from the choir’s adventures in the wild and unique landscapes of Iceland.
