Yoga classes at the Pearl

June 18, 2012
Knowing the huge gap which will be left as Sharon Allured, our current primary yoga teacher, leaves our community, the Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash Street, Bonners Feerry, will offer yoga classes taught by Victoria Blake Thompson each Tuesday and Thursday through July, beginning June 19.

Vicki has practiced yoga herself for many years, ever since she moved to Bonners Ferry in 1992.

After a dance career spanning over 15 years, she was seeking a form of physical exercise which could retain her flexibility and strength. Yoga, as she discovered, offers much more than strength and flexibility ... there is an evolving inner peacefulness and the ability to focus the mind which are equally beneficial.

"I know I can never replace Sharon, she is amazing," Vicki said, "but I will do my best to offer our community inspiring and well structured yoga classes."

Yoga is a fantastic healthful physical workout and a mental discipline for people of all ages, genders, shapes, and religious perspectives. Each position is modified to suit the individual body. There is no competition here, only the motivation toward individual growth, a healthier body, and a more focused mind.

Yoga Basics ... a class for those who are beginning their yoga experience and for those who like to move gently and slowly from position to position, will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Flow Yoga ... a class for those with yoga experience who like moving from one position to the other in a sequence, will be held from 6:45 to 8 p.m.

This is a more vigorous workout which requires that the student have experience with basic yoga positions. In this form of yoga, positions flow from one to the other in a logical, gentle sequences and are repeated. Each position is maintained a shorter period of time but done several times in the flow sequence.

More advanced yoga positions are also taught and included. These breath-driven sequences become a super slow motion dance, freeing and strengthening the body while focusing and settling the mind.

Fee is $50 for 10 classes if purchased at one time, or $7 for individual classes.

Summer session Yoga begins Tuesday, June 19, and concludes Thursday, July 26. The 10 class punch cards can be carried over to the fall session, which will begin the end of August.
