Elsie Hollenbeck
At their recent state convention, long-time Boundary County educator Elsie Hollenbeck was recently honored with the State Achievement Award of Alpha Nu State of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

The award, established in 1965, honors only the most outstanding of its active members, recognizing ability, accomplishment, enthusiasm, interest, idealism and vision.

Mrs. Hollenbeck has been active in the society for almost 38 years, originally initiated into the Zeta Chapter but switching soon after she qualified to join to the Upsilon Chapter, where she's served as State Finance Committee Chair, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and on various committees for conventions and conferences throughout the state.

Locally, she's twice served at chapter president twice, as vice president, treasurer and Parliamentarian. Last year, she was co-chair of the Chapter's convention in Post Falls.

She is well-known throughout Boundary County as an educator in local public schools, having been honored as Boundary County's Outstanding Teacher in 1978. She has been active at all levels of the Education Association, from serving as Affirmative Action Chair for the district to serving on the Professional Standards Commission.

She's remained involved in legislative issues affecting education and is an effective advocate for children, parents and educators.

Since her retirement, she's worked untold hours with the Boundary County Human Rights Task Force, the Grow Committee, the Phoenix Project and the Friends of the Restorium, just to name a few.

Between all that, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Richard Hollenbeck, her children, grandchildren and her new great-grandchild. She enjoys cross-country skiing, living a healthy lifestyle, reading, gardening, boating and macrame.
