Richard "Dick" Cowles, 82, Moyie Springs, passed
away peacefully on November 9, 2017, in Coeur
D'Alene.
He was born April 5, 1935, to Fred and Fern
Cowles in Mansfield, South Dakota. He and his
four siblings, Fred, Betty, Jack and Carol, grew
up on the family farm in Mellette, South Dakota.
Dick enlisted in the Army after high school
graduation.
After his service he moved to Sioux Falls, South
Dakota, where he met Janice Fonder. They were
married on October 11, 1958. They raised five
children and lived in Alaska, Arizona and Idaho,
in both Bonners Ferry and Moyie Springs, until
he moved to Rose Terrace Cottages in Coeur d'Alene two
years ago.
He loved the outdoors and was happiest when
hiking, hunting and traveling.
He will be lovingly remembered by his
wife, Janice and his children; Ann and Phil
Granath, Debbie and Gary Pempek, Jerry and
Sharon Cowles, Sandy and Conrad Garner and Jim
and Carol Cowles. He is also survived by his is
grandchildren; Duane and Abby, Derrick and
Ashley, Jessica, Erica, Trevor, Caleb and
Nathan, Danielle and Tyler, Francis and Greg,
Ashley, Chris and Jake, great grandchildren
Dylan, Hudson and Gage and siblings Jack and
Carol.
He was preceded in death by grandson Jacob
Pempek and siblings Fred and Betty..
A special thank-you to Rose Terrace Cottages and
Kindred Hospice for the love and compassionate
care they gave to Dick and also to his family.
Funeral service was held November 22 at St.
George Catholic Church in Post Falls. Yates
Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
