Danny E. Dunning passed away peacefully on
Saturday, March 4, 2017, at his home in
Porthill. His family would like to let you know
that his memorial will be from 1 to 3 p.m.
Saturday, July 8, at the Copeland Community
Hall. They hope that you can come and join them
in celebrating their father's life.
Dan was born in Seattle on October 21, 1946, to
Roy and Shirley Dunning. He graduated from
Ballard High School in June, 1965, and enlisted
in the Army on October 21, 1965.
He retired from the Army as a chief warrant
officer in 1987 after 22 years of service. When
Dan retired, he moved back to his hometown
Bonner’s Ferry with his wife, who also retired
from the Army. After retirement Dan also worked
as deputy for the Boundary County Sheriff’s
office for three years.
Dan’s hobbies while he was retired were building
birdhouses, trains, coins, and the love of
fishing. Dan was very interested in Antiques and
the story behind each piece he would find at
Sater's Auction every Thursday, in Moyie
Springs. He enjoyed his grand children and
always said “Grandpa knows best.”
He leaves behind his children, David and Suzie
Dunning and Tammy and Allan Hanson,
stepdaughters Jody Howard and Leslie and Michael
Bourdon, grandchildren Lindsey Dunning, Jacob
and Megan Hanson, Austin and Paige Howard,
Alyssa Myracle and Monica Bourdon, and great
grandsons Jaxson and Keith.
Dan also leaves behind his bird, Popa Gano,
otherwise known as “Poppy,” who was his sidekick
everywhere he went.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Gail
Dunning, his parents Roy and Shirley Dunning,
and his sister Pamela. |
