Jack
Eugene Spence, 81, of Yorktown, Indiana, passed
away Wednesday,
November 7, 2012, at IU Health Ball Memorial
Hospital.
He was born January 21, 1931, in Muncie,
Indiana, to the late John and Evelyn (Ash)
Spence.
Jack was a 1950 graduate of Muncie Central High
School. He was a proud veteran of the United
States Marine Corps, where he earned the rank of
corporal.
He was employed as a truck driver for Marsh
Supermarkets and retired after over 35 years, of
which he served as their senior driver for the
last 10 years. Jack was a member of the Yorktown
United Methodist Church in addition to the
American Legion, VFW and 40 & 8.
Survivors include loving wife of 62 years,
Carolyn Spence of Yorktown; sons Terry (Jackie)
Spence of Bonners Ferry, and Doug (Lynna) Spence
of Selma, Indiana; daughters Marcia (Ken) Kelly
and Peggy (Jack) Shafer, both of Yorktown; 10
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews; and beloved dog Taffy II. He
was preceded in death by both parents and a
brother, Jerry Spence.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday
November 12, 2012, at the Garden View Funeral
Home. Funeral services will follow
immediately at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cindy Osgood
officiating. Burial will be at the Gardens of
Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be
made to Parkinson’s National Association for
Research, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY
10018, or to Ball Memorial Hospital Hospice,
2401 West University Avenue, Muncie, IN 47303.
The family would like to extend their sincerest
thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff for all
of the care and compassion given to Jack during
his many stays at Ball Memorial Hospital.
