Linda
Hubbard Langness, 61, passed away on the morning
of September 15, 2012, in Coeur d'Alene. She
passed on surrounded by her friends and loved
ones.
Linda was born April 22, 1952, in Teaneck, New
Jersey. Along with her mother, father and three
younger brothers, she moved to Los Angeles
toward the end of the 1950s.
She graduated from high school in Los Angeles
and went on to get her bachelor and master's
degrees and finally her doctorate in cultural
anthropology from the University of California,
Los Angeles.
In 1985, Linda married Lewis Langness and lived
with him in Germany for almost a year before
returning to California to give birth to their
only child, Julian. Linda and Lew lived in Santa
Monica, spending time with family, gardening and
working until 1990.
Lew Langness' family has been in Idaho for over
100 years, mostly in Wallace. This connection o
North Idaho engendered a love of the area in the
couple. In 1991, they moved to Bonners Ferry,
and Linda embraced her new community with
excitement and open arms.
Linda held a wide variety of jobs in her life,
from working at a Greek restaurant in her 20s to
working on burbot studies for the Kootenai
Valley Resource Initiative in the early 2000s to
substitute teaching.
She loved to travel and visited most of Europe,
much of Mexico and Latin America and almost
every state in he U.S. She was extremely
passionate about cooking, and often recounted
the joys of working at Papa Byrd's Bistro in
Bonners Ferry. She loved to cater weddings and
anniversaries for friends and relatives, to
share recipes and host dinner parties.
Linda was beloved by her students at North Idaho
College and also spent hundreds of hours
tutoring local youth in German, poetry, English
and creative writing. She also spent countless
days as a volunteer at the Bonners Ferry
Visitors Center.
Linda had many friends throughout the area, and
her spirit will live on in their memories, as
well as those of her family.
Linda loved Bonners Ferry and always said that
she wished to remain here for the rest of her
life.
Linda is survived by her mother, Ruth Hubbard,
brothers Chris, Steven and Wallace; her husband
Lew Langness and son Julian and his wife,
Jordann Langness.
