Gary
Don Kerby died unexpectedly at home in Moyie
Springs on July 5, 2012. Gary requested no
funeral services, he just wanted friends and
family to have an informal gathering.
He was born July 10, 1946, in Lewiston, Idaho,
to C. Don and Marva Kerby. The family moved to
Bonners Ferry in 1948, where Gary went to Valley
View Elementary School and graduated from
Bonners Ferry High School in 1964. He
participated in football, baseball and track but
excelled most in basketball.
Gary attended U of I and NIJC where he played
basketball until sustaining a knee injury. After
that Gary had several different jobs, including
working in a silver mine in Wallace and owning
the Richfield gas station on the south hill.
Gary found his true passion when he began sawing
in the woods in 1972. Several years later he
bought his first of two logging trucks and
enjoyed the camaraderie of the crews and the
beauty and wildlife of the woods in north Idaho.
He sold his logging truck in 2006 and in 2007
started hauling part-time for North Idaho Energy
Logs, Inc.
He was married to Pam Regehr in 1970 and they
later divorced; their daughter TaLonna was born
in 1971. Gary and Janis were married July 14,
2002, and together they enjoyed the Kootenai
River, MGC and Chevelle cruises, and spending
time with friends and family.
Gary will be missed by all for his sense of fun,
quiet strength, dependability, and for truly
being a good man.
Gary is survived by his wife Janis; his daughter
TaLonna and husband Noah Newcomer and
granddaughter Nicole Bennett; foster daughter
Laura Bonneville, husband Derrill Unruh and
their children Devon, Tanner, and Chloe;
stepdaughter Amy Ulappa and husband Shannon
Johnson; brother Darrell Kerby and wife Patty,
nieces Kelly Kerby, Dawn Kerby and great-nephew
Kerby Lewis; brother Jon Kerby and wife Cheryl
and niece Sara Kerby. Gary was preceded in death
by his parents, Don and Marva.
Suggested memorials are the Bonners Ferry Lions’
Club or Boundary County Youth Crisis and
Domestic Violence Hotline Inc.
There will be an informal potluck gathering of
family and friends later this summer at Twin
Rivers Resort where Gary loved to go fishing and
boating with Janis, many friends and family. |
