Frances Carlene
Vetter, 93, passed away Thursday, August 4,
2011, in Bonners Ferry. Services will be held at
1 p.m. Friday, August 12 at Bonners Ferry
Funeral Home, with interment following in
Grandview Cemetery.
Carlene was born June 24, 1918, in Kansas to
Will and Myrtle Caughey. The family moved to
Twin Falls, Idaho, when Carlene was a toddler,
then to Boundary County at age eleven. She
graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in
1937.
She met Vernon Vetter at a community dance in
the spring of 1938, and they married that
September. They continued to dance and were
active in the local square dance club for many
years. Together they raised four children Sharon
(Rod) McNair, Bill (Valeria) Vetter, Vivian
(Vern) Doll and Lynnel (Steve) Wassmuth.
Carlene was a 4-H leader for approximately
twenty years. She was a charter member of the
Busy Bee Club. She volunteered for the school
lunch program at Mt. Hall School. She loved
gardening both vegetable and flower. She was an
accomplished seamstress, making most of the
clothes for her family. Family, friends, the
Community Restorium and the ECF wing were
recipients of the many afghans and lap robes
that Carlene knitted or crocheted.
Carlene was preceded in death by Vern, her
husband of fifty-seven years, her parents, two
sisters, one brother and one grandson. Survivors
include her children and their spouses, one
sister, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great
grandchildren, and eight great, great
grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Idaho
Community Foundation for the Boundary County 4-H
Program.
