Maurice
"Morris" Lee Brakeman, born August 16, 1942, in
Antioch, California, to Everett Oliver and Leigh
Shirley Petty Brakeman, died June 28, 2011, at
68 years old, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A
Celebration of Life gathering will be held at
Fiest Creek at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 30.
Morris’s family spent most of his childhood
living in Gordon, Nebraska, where his father
opened a radio repair shop after returning from
WWII. Morris graduated from Gordon High School
in 1960. At a time where many young men were
avoiding the draft, Morris enlisted in the Army
in March of 1961. He served several tours of
duty overseas including, Viet Nam, Thailand,
Panama, and Germany.
He served his country faithfully for over twenty
years and retired as a Master Sergeant. He
continued traveling around the world working at
a variety of jobs before settling in Northern
Idaho in the spring of 2007. Morris loved the
outdoors, fishing, hunting, and is especially
remembered for his story telling. He was a good
friend to many, and a loving father, with a
great sense of humor.
Morris is survived by four children: Traci
(David) Jones, Erik (Audrey) Brakeman, Tanya
Brakeman, and Matthew (Jennifer) Brakeman.
Thirteen grandchildren: Parker Jones, Autumn
Jones, Morgan Brakeman, Jaida Glessner, Caleb
Jones, Sierra Glessner, Aurora Jones, Ashley
Brakeman, Robyn Glessner, Carly Glessner, Tanner
Jones, Aurelia Jones, and Ben Brock. One
brother: Errol (Joan) Brakeman. One niece:
Shelley (Mick) Dragoo. One nephew: Jonathon
(Sonja) Brakeman.
